Speech Buddy Videos

The speech buddy videos were really helpful this week. In the first video, 10.1, he tells us that we should relate to our audience so they feel engaged. A few ways to do it is to refer to current events, using the pronouns we and us, using inclusive language that doesn't single out any group, using similes and metaphors to help the audience visuals, and to spark their imagination. Its easy to use humor to get the audience into your speech. By using similes and metaphors, it helps the audience see your comparison so that they can easily visuals what your talking about. In 10.2, they talk about using effective language to get the audience engaged. This can be done so by avoiding offensive language, using meaningful, bold words that will capture their attention, using repetition so that your point gets hammered into their heads. In 12.1, they tell us that its important to speak the right way. The audience won't get your message if you speak softly. It's important to speak loudly and clearly so that you are easy to understand. It is also important to articulate your words and keep a steady speed. Even if you are loud, its hard to understand someone when they speak to fast, and its also boring if someone talks to slow. In the demonstration speeches, the girl wasn't an effective presenter because she paused a lot, which made the audience lose their interest, and she said "um" a lot. In the next video, they talk about how important it is to have good body language. They also suggest that using a podium is not a good idea. This gives the speaker a tendency to lean on it. This makes you look bored with your own speech and disinterested. Body language is really important. the audience interprets the presenters body language. If the presenter is using their hands to show the audience and stands up straight, it shows that they are confident and interested in their own speech. If the presenter is slouched over and fidgety, it shows their not confident or not even interested or knowledgeable about what they are presenting on. These tips were important to learn for my persuasive speech.
